My Journey To Becoming Hero Girl

It all started just after my children were born in 1999.  I was a stay home Mom.   I had just put them down for nap and put the TV on and Bailamos came on, I used to watch Much Music all the time.  I was like HELLO who is that??  What a voice!   Yes I was talking about Enrique.  I had to find out more information about him.  I knew who his Dad was.  Then I went out to purchase Enrique 1999.  Well that was it I was hooked for life.  My husband listens to Howard Stern and heard Enrique on there, so he came home that day and told me all about the bad review he got.  I was so mad that Howard did that.  Then just to prove him wrong Enrique did a live show  on June 8^th, 2000.  After the performance Stern remarked "I respect you for coming in here; you really can sing".^] Iglesias would remark that the controversy was the best promotion he could have. The album's single Be With You became Iglesias's second #1 single on Billboard's Hot 100.

Then in 2001 he came out with Escape, well you all know the rest of the albums since then I don’t need to write them all down. They just got better and better.

2001 was the year I decided to go back to school to get my Dance Teachers License.  Everywhere I went I heard an Enrique song, it was amazing.  He is huge in the Ballroom/Latin community.  My schooling took a few years and as I was a stay home Mom money was tight.  Every time E came I enter 100’s of contest to win tickets.  As I said earlier money was tight so getting VIP was out of the question for me, I never got to meet him.  Finally he came to a location near me.  Bramalea City Center there was so much security I couldn’t get near him. =( Then there was Much Music, Eaton Center all the same, girls and security everywhere. 

When he came out with Escape I just fell in love with HERO.    They played that video over and over again. When his Greatest Hits came out Takin Back My Love was my #1 favorite song and still is today, along with Somebody’s Me.

 Euphoria was a  totally difference album then all the rest, but” Baby I Like It”. Did you know Euphoria mean “A feeling of great happiness or well-being” so true.

Along the way I signed up on the EI site and Jennifer was the very first person to add me as a friend, and we have been friends every since.  She had introduced me to allot of people on the site and I’m very grateful to her.  We go to show together, it truly is amazing. Then came Twitter and Facebook, well what can I say I have allot of my Enrique family on all three site.  The friends I have made are Amazing; they are all a great group of girls. Love my Hermana’s.

I would have to say I put in a ton of time waiting before shows after shows, radio station etc, etc.  Still I hadn’t met him, yet I see all the posts on the sites and felt these girls were all so very lucky…… why can’t it happen to me?

When I found out he was coming this year 2012 I couldn’t believe it, as he never does show two years in a row.  Jennifer and I had started planning from the beginning.  We bought tickets for Montreal, Maura came with us too.  (I met Maura the year before at the Toronto Show in September through Jennifer) What a blast we had, travel to the airport taking taxi cabs to our hotel. Shopping in Montreal, it was allot of fun. We waited 2 hours after the show in Montreal, we were all bummed we didn’t get to see him. The three of us walking the streets of Montreal, looking for a Tim Horton’s to help relieve the pain.   We all said we still have Toronto yeah 2 more shows. Montreal is a whole other story.  You will have to see the video.

The day finally comes the first show in Toronto.  I rush home from work to get ready, so I look somewhat decent.  It takes my son and I well over an hour to get there traffic was terrible.  When we parked at the Air Canada Center I had no idea I was right in front of where the buses parked.  So as I was walking to the door I made my way there and waited to see if I could meet Enrique.  I messaged Jennifer to tell here where I was, and to come.   Jennifer and I had our kids with us.  We waited for almost 2 hours before the show, no luck. As we were waiting we could hear Enrique warming up for sound check, it was very cool.  The show starts and I’m screaming as usual and dancing all night.  We made our way to the HERO stage we were on the side but right in the front and he didn’t even look our way.  I was so disappointed, yet again.  The whole way home I was thinking of what I could do.

The next day I was very determined this was going to happen.  I was going out for dinner for my birthday with my Sister and her husband, and then to the show.  I didn’t have any time to get ready, rushed through the door washed my face, and off I went.  I was meeting Jennifer there, we were sitting together and Maura was there too with another friend of hers. I just happened to walk by the buses where I had parked the night before just to see if anyone was there when. To my surprise there was Alex with a bunch of girls.  He spots me and yelled over to me, so I went over and introduced him to my sister and brother in-law.  He is really nice. Sweet  Alex.  So my night is off to a good start.  My sister had told Alex that it was my birthday and I been waiting 10 years to meet him, he had no idea I had never met him.  I guess he thought all of us crazy girls on the sites have met him before.  We went into the show and my sister leaves me to go to her seats, I was on the floor by the cat walk MEOW. Jen was already in our seats. The show starts and I’m so excited Jlo opened I danced all night.  My sister found us with her binoculars, and was messaging me throughout night.  After Jlo she messaged me and said no way Enrique can top that, I said oh yeah just wait. She was an Enrique virgin, never seen him before in concert. Was she ever in for a surprise   Sure enough as soon as he came on my sister couldn’t believe it, the messages were flowing.  I was up again dancing my butt off. I was getting ready to run for my life for the Hero stage as the confetti started and I knew it was time to go, Jennifer said to me it’s too early they are going to kick us out. I said OKAY  OKAY ppfffst =(. Then it was time, I was walk/running, but trying to not look to conspicuous.   We get to the HERO stage I didn’t know what to do cause the night before he didn’t even look at us. We shuffled over a bit towards the front but we were still on the side.  As you know Jennifer was taping from the time he came in till he got onto the stage. I was trying to climb the barricades as they were pretty high, I have lots of bruising to prove it (see pics below along with the video). Okay here we go he comes onto the stage and the crown goes wild, now I’m screaming like lunatic, half hanging over the barricade and praying at the same time.  He looks our way and we lock eyes and I pleading with him, please please please.  He starts to sing and doesn’t look at us again.  My heart drops in pain.  Then he asking “Who Wants to Come up Here”  25 thousand girls are screaming, like he’s going to hear me.  It seemed like forever and I really thought he was going to pick a girl from the other side again.  Then all of a sudden he turns and looks at me again, and BAM he says “ Bring her up”.  I almost die. (BOINK, FAINT)  I start thinking ….of all days I don’t get dressed up and I ‘m wearing my Enrique hat I get picked to be HERO girl, just my luck.  As soon as I get up there you can’t see anybody just Enrique in the light.  Like an Angel from above.  I’m screaming I can’t believe I’m standing in front of him.  My heart was racing so much I thought I was going to pass out. I’m jumping up and down, what was I thinking, he’s going to think you are a lunatic. STOOOOPPP.   Then I lost control and said OMG I started crying and ran into his arms.  In some of the video you can see me crying (shaking) my lungs heaving up and down.  Enrique was so sweet.  He was rubbing my back with his thumb, and singing in my ear, I was speechless.   He smells like fresh linen.  After we separated I sang my heart out, and then the song says “I can kiss away your pain” He planted one hell of a kiss on me awwwwhhh it was salty, sweet with a hint of alcohol. RUM I think! LOL.  When we danced I told him how long I have been waiting for this day.  He said to me he couldn’t believe that it took me so long.  My face was hurting so much from smiling.  The kisses were an added bonus.  He smells really fresh; I don’t know how he does it, as he was all sweating, but I didn’t care.  He put my hand on his butt, I was a little shy but what the hell it’s Enrique, and besides I had a Hall Pass.   He introduced me to the audience which was very cool. I got to wave up to my sister and brother in-law.   At the end when he told me to get my ass over to him, I’m thinking OKAY… I’m here.  When he put his hand on my butt, shocks shot through me like you wouldn’t believe.  I could hardly catch my breath.  When we went down under the stage, he thanked me, can you believe that, he said I was a great Hero girl.   I thanked him for making my dream come true, he gave me another kiss and in the box he went.  It was the most wonderful thing that has happened to me since I had my children, and what made it even more special my husband fully supported me on it, he gave me my Hall Pass. I don’t think Enrique realized how much he changes our lives, when he does stuff like that.  It truly is amazing, and so is he.

 It’s all history now; every city there will be another new Hero Girl. I wish good luck to all of them.

That’s my Hero story, hope you all liked it.I will never forget as long as I live, and treasure my memory.
