Permalink Reply by Daniel on October 3, 2009 at 4:08am The "Latin Lover" image is something that needs to die! Enrique himself hates it - so why continue with this foolish image? Just because he has Spanish roots doesn't mean that he has to be presented as a "Latin Lover" - it's so lame! And that image stands in Enrique's way - it's a joke, a farce - and he's made fun of by the public and critics because of it. So why continue with it? Because it's how the world sees him? Well, that's what wrong with it all - doesn't his management see that?? (i.e. FERNANDO!! - hello, are you out there paying attention, Fernando??!) It is never too late to change an image - improve an image - and it's time to make Enrique's image something GROWN UP that will sell among an audience that goes beyond young teenage girls who want to marry him and who idolize him for his relationship with some blond celeb chick and dream they could be in her shoes. It's all so pathetic!! When is Enrique going to start being a grown up - an artist who is RECOGNIZED and RESPECTED for his music and his songwriting skills - instead of his looks, his "dream boyfriend" status, and whatever nonsense gets spread across the pages of gossip rags? When are we going to see something from Enrique that will put him in magazines like Rolling Stone, Spin, and Billboard - with serious interviews where he talks about his songwriting, his goals as a musician and songwriter? Instead of talking about nonsense like he does in most interviews. I've been disappointed in Enrique for some time now. He needs to step it up and be taken more seriously!! I’ve been a fan for many, many years - but Enrique doesn’t seem to grow, he just seems to stand still - and that is very disappointing! I know he’s capable of way more than this - but he and his management seem to just think this is enough - but it’s not. Because he is boring us out here - with the same old, same old - prove to us that you are still exciting, Enrique.
Daniel said:But, what image you want Enrique to represent? I mean, I can't really think of anything that close to him, other than the "Latin Lover" image, he carried on for years. This image ("Latin Lover") was a huge part of his break-in to the mainstream and no matter what, the guy will always have this image on him, because this is who he is seems to be from the outside
Permalink Reply by Daniel on October 3, 2009 at 1:20pm How do you know most of his fans wouldn't like a new direction? It just might be exactly what Enrique needs - in my opinion, Enrique's sound and image have gone very stale - and many long-time fans feel the same way. We've grown up - we're changing - and Enrique should be growing up and changing with us. That is how you keep your long-time established fan base - you keep inspiring them to want to stick with you because you are evolving and growing, you keep them coming back for more. Look at veteran bands like Green Day and Bon Jovi for instance. Jon Bon Jovi started out being a teen heartthrob with millions of girls wanting to marry him, but he evolved out of that phase, by proving that he was about more than good looks and getting girls to swoon over him. He became a legend because he wasn't afraid to step out of his old image and grow as a person and as an artist - and he kept his long-time fan base as well as gaining new ones along the way. Green Day started out as a punk band but weren't afraid to grow and step into a much larger scale of rock where they now have entered the main stream and gaining millions of more fans with a new more grown-up image. You have to take chances - you can't just stay stuck in the same rut - and that's what I feel Enrique is in - a rut! He loses fans with each album - and then he gains a few more teenagers who stick with him for awhile, but the next time around they get bored again and move on. But where are all those fans he once had in the U.S. - they are gone now because he couldn't keep their interest - and many of us who are still trying to hold on, we're getting bored too, wondering why Enrique won't grow? He seems to think he's the eternal teenager - what a lame thing is that! It's okay to show maturity, Enrique - show that you are about more than silly jokes and feeling up girls on stage, playing the "Latin lover" who seduces his fans. Be about your music instead, Enrique - show what you are really made of - show what a deep, talented, serious songwriter you are - with lyrics about subjects that say something more than "I want your booty" - show growth, show depth, show us you are an adult with intelligent thoughts. It just might open a whole new world and a whole new audience to you - one that will keep you on the charts for years and years to come - because you are about something, stand for something - and not just a cute guy who makes the girls scream.

Permalink Reply by Daniel on October 4, 2009 at 2:12am I think Enrique needs to shed that "latin lover" image. He tries but only by making sarcastic comments. He should dress more his age no more hoodies and caps. Im not saying he should wear a suit and tie like his father or Luis Miguel but something more appropriate. Enrique should also do meaningful things to stay in the news in between albums. Enrique could do more charity work in between albums to get some press. Shakira, Juanes, and other singers do it! Or claim to study some spiritual crap or something educational. No one thought Shakira retired the past 3 years because she did work with her foundation and went to school and got press for it. Juanes does his "peace" concerts. Look at all the publicity he got, good or bad, publicity is publicity. After 7 Enrique disapeared for 3 years and alot of people assumed heretired. All the news we hear from Enrique in between albums it seems are false wedding rumors.
I would really like to see Enrique do a Spanish album and promote the hell out of it the way he does his English ones. He also needs to be less sarcastic and not joke as much during English interviews. He can get get away with that during Spanish interviews because they already are familiar with him and the interviewer is sometimes a friend of his. So they know he is BSing. However, in an English interview his jokes almost always get spun around and it makes him look bad.
